Hey guys, I'm looking at building a 5S-GTE Engine in the near future. Has anyone ever heard of/seen this done before? I know some of the MR2 guys do it to get +800whp but I've never met anyone whose done the build in qld.
Thoughts?
(5S-GTE = 5S-FE Block + 3S-GTE Head)

I haven't done it yet personally, but I have researched it extensively. You'll want to use a 98+ 5S block if you can find one, as they are the strongest (modified cast to solve cracking problem). Mate this to a gen 2 or gen 3 GE/GTE head, some modification of the water jackets is required though. It's not advisable to run the 5S rods and pistons, 5S rods are made of a soft cheese and the compression the pistons make is a tad too high for reliable forced induction. You can buy purpose built 5S-GTE forged rods and pistons from various manufacturers.
Of course, there are a few builds where a 3S head has just been thrown onto a 5S block and boosted that seem to be going just fine. Unless the car is your daily or you can live without your own transport for a while if the engine gives up, this might be the preferable/cheapest option.
If you're on OzCelica, there's a wealth of 5SGTE information hidden around the place.
